Does anyone know about tenant abandonment?

My neighbors rental property was abandoned by the tenants for the past two weeks furniture, clothes, food, pets include 3 cats that I am currently feeding outside. She had a friend supposedly helping her who came over and got a check of hers to mail. However, its two weeks later and no sign of her. He already gave her a late notice and I have the keys to feed the cats. What's the next step?
