Where is the best place to print photos like professionals do?

I'm interested in learning all about photography and have been reading books and trying to find classes. However, I haven't founda lot of information about actually developing digital prints. I've tried developing prints at the local places and through snapfish, etc. But where do professionals get their photos printed? They always seem to ship them off somewhere? Where do people print the pictures?
